Chapter 5

Jerry’s pacing frantically back and forth in front of his desk, trying to work off some of his anger. The more he’d thought about being excluded from the raid, the madder he became.

“In all fairness, I should’ve been one of the first to be included in this bust. After all, I’m the one who’s worked on the Greco case for nearly two years and it was my hard work that got you guys enough evidence for the warrants. He spat,

“Why couldn’t the captain let me go, why? I know I made a stupid mistake, but that was years ago. Now because of my poor judgment and the captain’s lack of forgiveness I may end up missing out on what could’ve been the biggest bust in my career. Why did I let him get to me like that? Why?” He questions, as he continues walking around the room.

“I wished they’d call and give me an update on what’s happening.” He thinks, glancing up at the clock.

“It’s only been fifteen minutes since they left? The team’s probably just made it to the house.” He concludes as he continues to pace around in the small enclosed work area. Glancing out of his window, the captain sees the detective moving around the room like a mad man. He walks over to him.

“Jerr, I need you to go to the lab, see if Sharon has anything else for us.”

“What if my partners call, while I’m gone?”

“I’ll call you as soon as they do, I promise.”

“Oh, alright. Please be sure to call me if you hear anything, ok captain.”

“You’ll be first on the list.” Seeing the detective walk out into the hallway, another officer lets out a sigh of relief.

”Thank you, sir.”

“I figured he’s probably driving everyone crazy with his pacing.”

“You have no idea, sir.” Laughing, Joe walks to his office.

“Rachel should’ve been back by now.” Joe thinks, glancing toward the car. Not seeing her anywhere, he starts to panic. Suddenly the nightmare began replaying in his mind. Fear continued to build as he desperately searched through the empty yard.

“I’ve got to find her.” He thinks, darting out the door. Stepping out on the freshly cut lawn, he began scanning the entire area. Seeing a body lying in the far-east corner of the yard, he runs over to it. Relieved it’s not his partner, he bends down and checks for a pulse, but didn’t feel any. Hearing a small weak voice call out to him, he anxiously glances around the yard. He sees her lying in the bushes a few feet away. Her body’s positioned in a peculiar fashion on the cool, damp grass.

“Call an ambulance, and check the prisoner.” He orders, rushing towards her.

Walking into the lab, Jerry began looking around the bright sterile room. He sees his favorite technician standing in the corner, working on a piece of evidence.

“She’s so adorable.” He thinks, watching every little movement she made. The detective’s had a crush on her for some time, but’s too frightened to let her know.
